What Chaos was happening in 2019?
2nd December 2019
It was the most wonderful night of the year, well....... maybe not, it sure was up there with the best.
But it was full of Christmas spirit. Plenty of dancers, 37 through the door.
Due to the heat, we only danced 4 squares just the once, the rest of the night was mostly 3.
Visitors from Suncoasters and EZ squares. Really great to have Elaine with us for a few calls.
Being a free night, everybody supported the raffle. there were 8 prizes - nearly 200 tickets sold.
Supper was fabulous, more than anyone could want or need.
You know it's been a good night, when the hall is still buzzing long after the dancing and clean-up is finished and you are contemplating turning the lights off to get them to leave.
I want to thank all the members and visitors for a very successful 2019 and hope that 2020 continues the same way. Thank you also to the dancers for the lovely card (signed by all) and the very generous cash gift, you know it will eventually be spent on new music and equipment to make our dances even more fun. Have a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year. We'll see you all again on February 3rd in the new year.
See pictures HERE - Thanks Suzie Dillon for some of the pics
25th November 2019
Another fun night by the Bay. 33 dancers in the hall. We didn't crack 4 squares but we danced 3 most of the night. Our focus move for the evening was "Co-ordinate". The only formation available is columns but there are 6 gender arrangements as well as "Left" to play with. Suzie won the members draw, so it's back to $5 for next week.
Next week is also our Christmas & Break Up party.
All Plus dancers are welcome. Christmas Dress and please bring a Plate.
Yes, there will be a massive raffle. See you there!!
18th November 2019
Well, the square dance year is drawing to a close, 2 weeks to go now. 24 dancers in the hall, we did dance 3 squares just the once. Great to have Bruce, Gail and Linda back after extended absences. Still at least 12 on the sick parade or travelling. Apparently Graham Lawson is out of hospital, but won't be dancing, good luck Mate!!
I decided we would not have a workshop this week, we just danced. The members draw would have been Martin, but he's travelling, so it jackpots again. Looking forward to Our Christmas dance on the 2nd December, all Plus dancers are welcome. Please bring a plate.
11th November 2019
Another warm night at Deception Bay. Started with 3 squares and gradually shifted to 2. There were 27 dancers in the hall. I counted at least 12 away for various reasons. Our focus move last night was Chase Right - we looked at it from quite a few different arrangements - it doesn't have a lot of variety in the formations available. Margaret Baines again had a range of ladies clothing available for sale. Richard would have won the members draw, but he was away, so it jackpots to $20 next week. Only 3 more nights dancing at Upbeat this year. Don't forget our Christmas party on the 2nd December,. Bring a plate and some change for the raffle.
4th November 2019
A hot night, but plenty of dancers came along for a good time. 30 dancers through the door, we mostly danced 3 squares. Quite a few on the sick parade still, we hope they're well soon. Our "Focus" move last night was "And Spread". We explored the options that it gives us. Margaret Baines was with us, she was able to dance a couple of brackets and had a bunch of clothes to sell. The ladies were very interested. Marty would have won the members draw, but he was absent, it jackpots again. Dancers are looking forward to the society Christmas party this coming Saturday. Only 4 weeks of dancing left for the year. Our Christmas Party/Break Up is the December 2nd - wear your favourite Christmas outfit and please bring a plate.
28th October 2019
Well, what a night, I wish I could say I was on top of my game, just one of those nights where I couldn't think quick enough. We had 27 dancers in the hall, which I thought was really good considering a lot of dancers were dancing all weekend at the Shindig. We started with 3 squares and settled down to 2. Our focus movemement last night was "AND ROLL". Right & Left Thru & Roll will need more work. Good to see Margaret Baines along last night too. Linda Long would have won the members draw if she'd been there, it jackpots for next week.
25-27th October 2019 - Shindig No.11
By all accounts, a great weekend, I was there Saturday Afternoon & Evening.
See pictures on the Shindig page HERE
22nd October 2019
What a hall full of dancers last night!
Started with 3 squares which quickly went to 4, 33 dancers through the door.
I had some 2nd hand ladies dancewear to give away, it didn't last long.
Our focus move for the 3rd bracket was All 8 Spin the Top, I thought it went quite well.
Thelli won the members draw. Some bad news, Marty is in hospital with heart issues, they're still investigating.
It is great to see Jim back on the dance floor after his heart issues.
Finished the night with a couple of UpBeat singing calls.
Dancers are looking forward to the Shindig in Gympie this weekend.
14th October 2019
Is this a great club or what? Had a great time last night.
3 squares for a large portion of the night - 31 dancers in the hall.
Great to have Jan back after recent health issues. Also good the have Heather back after a recent fall.
It was also Desiree's birthday. Jan had a "Big 0" birthday last Friday.
Our focus movement last night was Acey Deucey, we did it from quite a few Formations & Arrangements.
Sharyn won the members draw ($10), so it's back to $5 next week.
I also did a couple of new songs that have yet to be officially released.
7th October 2019
How hot was it dancing last night? 3 squares dancing most of the time, with 30 dancers through the door.
At least half a square away due to illness or accident. Good to see Margaret Baines with us again.
Started the workshop bracket idea last night, I think we now have a better understanding of Load the Boat.
The members draw did not go off, so it jackpots to $10 next week.
Had quite a few positive comments about the night.
30th September 2019
The dark clouds rolled in just as I was leaving for the dance, but no rain.
28 Dancers came along to enjoy our Black & White party night.
Great to see Margaret Baines (she even had a couple of dances). We danced 3 squares about 1/2 the night.
Also great to have Rob & Elaine Davis join us. I got to enjoy a dance while Elaine called.
Plenty of raffle prizes, thanks to those that donated extra prizes. Betty won the members draw.
There was so much supper, we didn't quite manage to eat it all. And just as we finished packing up to leave, the heavens opened. What a downpour!! I know we need the rain, but another 10 minutes would have been nice.

Great dancing at Upbeat last night. 29 dancers through the door, we danced 3 squares nearly all of the night.

Don't forget, next week is our Black & White party night. Please bring a plate, and yes, there will be a raffle.
16th September 2019
Well we had 20 dancers last night at UpBeat. We also had another 3 recovering from recent surgery but who wanted to come along to socialise. Great to have Jim, Faith and Barry along. So we danced 2 squares most of the time. I wore my new vest (made by my daughter Michelle). We played with some T-Bone Load the Boats.
Sue Ettles would have won the Members draw but she was away, it jackpots next week. Only 2 weeks until our next Party night - It's a "Black & White" theme, please bring a plate - visitors welcome
9th September 2019
***No Dancing***
9th September (State Convention in Rockhampton)
2nd September 2019
Had a good night at UpBeat, numbers a little down but still 23 dancers in the Hall. We played with some interesting choreography and at times, the dancers came up with some interesting variations. Graham Young won the members draw. David & Fath were with us but Faith not dancing due to recent surgery. No Dancing next Monday due to the State Convention.
26th August 2019
Another good night at UpBeat. 25 dancers through the door, we did dance 3 squares about 1/2 of the night. We got ourselves into some interesting arrangements. Had fun with a new Zoom routine. Our recent graduates are doing well. Our banner carriers for the State Convention are arranged. Karen Gray would have won the members draw but she wasn't there, jackpots to $10 next week. Remember, we are dancing next week.
19th August 2019
A great time was had by all at UpBeat last night. 33 dancers in the hall, we did dance 4 squares regularly throughout the night. Did a short workshop on Follow your Neighbour (with & without Spread) Also worked on Crossfire a little. Mayet won the members draw. Thank you all for making our club what it is. Please remember, No Dancing on the 9th September due to the State Convention in Rockhampton.
12th August 2019
Had a great time at UpBeat last night. 29 dancers in the hall, danced 3 squares nearly all of the night.
Still counted a full square away for various reasons, holidays, illness etc.
Worked hard on Load the Boat from Tidal Waves, it is a work in progress and is improving.
Russell would have won the members draw, but he's away.
A number of dancers stopped by the stage to tell me what a good time they were having.
I also love it when dancers ask me to clarify a movement in the break, means they care about getting it right.
5th August 2019
Great night at UpBeat. Started with 4 squares on the floor and tapered off to 3 during the night. 33 dancers through the door. Must have been in a country mood, played a few from the greats, Don Williams, Charlie Pride. Great to have Susan Young back - she's not dancing yet after her foot operation, but she's back. Denice won the members draw, only $5.00. David & Faith will now be away for a month, Russell and Suzie even longer. Great to have Bill & Joan back after holidays & illness.
As you might know it's "Show" season. The "Ekka" is the next week or so, but last weekend was the Pine Rivers Show at Lawnton Showgrounds. Desiree won a Trophy and Sash for "Champion Vegetable" for her Pumpkin.
29th July 2019
Upbeat Chaos certainly went Country last night. 4 squares for the first few brackets, then 3 for the rest of the night. 35 dancers in the hall, still had a few apologies. Wonderful to have Frances & John from Goonellabah, N.S.W. Frances calls for Summerland Larrikins in Alstonville and she did call a great bracket for us. The raffle was well supported. The massive Fruit & Vege tray was won by Hazel. 2nd prize was chocolate, also won by Hazel. 3rd prize was some chocolates donated by David & Faith and won by Annette. 4th & 5th prizes were beautiful orchids donated by Jim and won by Betty & Faith. Russell won the members draw $10.
We danced to some very old and reasonably new Country Music. Way Out West by James's Blundell & Reyne, all the way back to Alabama Jubilee written in 1915. There was soooooo much supper. If you went away hungry, it was your own fault. Thank you everyone, for making it such a wonderful night.

22nd July 2019
Great night at Upbeat last night. 33 dancers through the doors. Started with 4 squares, finished with 3 - still a few apologies. The recent graduates are doing well, getting better each week. We reviewed: Follow Your Neighbour, with and without Spread. Gail would have won the member draw had she been there - a bit worried, haven't seen them for a while. Looking forward to our Country & Western night next week. Raflle prizes are looking good - please bring a plate, and yes, we would love it if there was some food on it. I have my costume organised, do you?
15th July 2019
Another great night at UpBeat. 30 dancers through the door. Started with 3 squares and finished with 3 squares. Great to have Mayet back, got the last teach for "Crossfire" done. Great to have a visitor Robert, from Melbourne with us. He's up here visiting with friends. Jim (Sharon) won the $10 members draw. Only 2 weeks until the Country & Western party night - bring a plate please, and there will be a raffle. After that we'll just all dance as one big group all night for the rest of the year.
8th July 2019
What a night. 35 dancers in the hall. Started the night with 4 squares, finished with 3. As it is still school holidays, I brought Sheryl & Natasha along. Everyone was on top of their game (even me) and we all had a lot of fun. Reviewed Crossfire a little and split into 2 couple squares to get the Centre part of Load the Boat down pat. Did a couple of new songs and requests. Margaret (& Michael) would have won the members draw, but they are away overseas, it jackpots for next week. It's only 3 weeks until our Country & Western Party night. After that night, there will be no more Learners / Experienced dancers, we will be one big happy family.
1st July 2019
Another good night at Upbeat, even if I was having a bit of a "full moon" night. A little trouble with resolution. 29 dancers through the door. 3 squares for the "New" brackets and 2 for the Experienced brackets. Re-taught Diamonds, because one of class members (Mayet) was away for the original teach, good to have her back. Barry Ball won the members draw.
24th June 2019
Well, Revision and Practice for our new Plus dancers. 28 dancers through the door, however, a number had to leave before dancing started (car troubles and health problems). Still, we had 25 to dance. We danced just the 2 squares all night. A number of other apologies due to illness and accidents. We played with Load the Boat and Explodes from Tidal Waves... interesting. Susan won the members draw, but gave it back later when she realised she wasn't wearing her badge. I hadn't noticed either.
17th June 2019
It has to happen occassionally I suppose, numbers were well down last night. 22 dancers in the hall, we did dance 2 squares all night. Teaching Crossfire was fun, Well, sort of!!
2 Faced Lines, Left & Right, Tidal 2 Faced Lines, Inverted Lines, Ends In & Out, Lines of 4 Facing In & Out,
1/4 Lines, we will obviously need more practice.
On the whole, it's not the new Plus movements that are the issue, it's the Basics. Great to have Rob, Elaine & Julie-Anne visiting last night. Betty won the members draw. Hope everyone is feeling better for next week.
The class is finished but we will continue with alternate brackets for a few more weeks, probably until the middle of July. Then we will be just one big happy Plus club.
10th June 2019
A lot of fun last night. 32 dancers through the doors. We danced 3 squares for the first half of the night and then 2. We reviewed Spin Chain the Gears and Exchange the Gears.
Re-taught Diamonds for the few that missed last week. Only one more move to go "Cross Fire".
Susan looked good in her new badge, she's now eligible to be in the members draw.
It didn't go off this week because Bruce wasn't there, so it will jackpot to $10 next week.
3rd June 2019
Well, quite a few apologies this week. 23 dancers through the door. So we danced 2 squares all night. Well wishes to all those with medical issues. Those on holiday - have fun!!.
As they say, Diamonds are a girls best friend. We played with Diamonds.
We made them, flipped 'em, cut 'em, circulated 'em, faced 'em , point to pointed 'em, acey dueced 'em, swung thru them and then we looked at Concentrics.
Due to a number of the learners away, we'll do them again next week too. Denice won the members draw.
Only 2 more weeks of the learners class to go, then look out!!
27th May 2019
Just another great night at Upbeat Chaos. 34 dancers through the door.
We only danced 4 squares once, but mostly 3 for the rest of the night. Equal best numbers this year
Newer dancers learned "And Roll" as well as "Peel the Top", they are all doing really well.
Only Diamonds and Crossfire to go.
Even though she's not dancing at the moment, Desiree was there wearing her badge and won the members draw.
Great to have Margaret & Michael back after their convention trip and associated illness.
We'll miss Greg & Anne next week, he's off to W.A. for family.
20th May 2019
24 dancers last night, but it felt different without Betty on the door. Thanks Suzie, for standing in.
Started with 3 squares but danced 2 the rest of the night. We're really getting through the learners class. Trade the Wave, Dixie Grand and Relay the Deucey last night. Will be done by the middle of next month. The tricky bits still tend to be Basic movements. We still have all the learners that started with us in March. Faith won the members draw. I'm very grateful to all those dancers who help set-up chairs & tables and sort out the kitchen - Thank you.
13th May 2019
Well, what a crowd at Upbeat last night. 31 dancers through the door. Danced 3 squares at times during the night. Great to have Rob & Elaine Davis with us - Rob is now retired. Elaine called a bracket. The learners reviewed all that we have done and learned Spin Chain & Exchange the Gears. Barry Ball won the members draw.
6th May 2019 (Labour Day)
Another good night at UpBeat. Even with a long weekend, there were 24 dancers in the hall.
We did dance 3 squares, but it was mostly 2. New dancers learned All 8 Spin the Top, Anything & Spread as well as Track 2. We worked LH Relay the Deucey with the regular club dancers. Joan won the members draw.
A number of regular dancers away and a couple not yet back from Tassie. Good to have Heather & Thelli back. Looks like Betty will be on a road trip next week.
29th April 2019
Awesome night at UpBeat tonight. Started with 3 squares but danced 2 squares most of the night. 25 dancers in the door. It was a BLUE party night. I did BLUE songs all night, everybody (mostly) dressed in BLUE. Table decorations were BLUE and some of the food was BLUE. We had raffle prizes as is usual on our party nights. Denice won the 2 major Priizes and Margaret won the mystery 3rd Prize while Mayet won the 4th prize Orchid donated by Jim. The members draw failed to go off. Also great to have Di back dancing after her recent holiday. One interesting thing happened at the start of the night. When I was at my other club last week, I had a guest caller - When I went to plug in my computer tonight , I realised that I had my guest callers power cord and obviously he has mine. The battery was at 100% , so I carried on. Got all the way to the last bracket . I said if the battery dies in this bracket , we'll have an early supper - which is exactly what happened. Nobody minded, we all had a laugh and enjoyed the supper. See pictures HERE
22nd April 2019 - No Dancing (Easter Monday)
15th April 2019
A good night at UpBeat last night. 25 dancers through the door, we did dance 3 squares for about 1/2 the night. Visitors last night were Sheryl & Natasha Townson and Graham Young. We learned Co-ordinate, Follow your Neighbour and Single Circle (& 3/4) to a Wave. I think the new format of alternate brackets worked well and the dancers seemed to agree. Barry Ball won the members draw. Don't forget, no dancing next week on the 22nd and Party night on the the 29th. Wear something Blue and please bring a plate.
8th April 2019
I'm struggling to make the 1/3, 1/3, 1/3, dance work.
I feel it would benefit everyone, including me, if we make each week 1/2 & 1/2 with alternate brackets all night.
Everyone will get a fair shake. Notwithstanding that I've been struggling with the timing of the levels within the evening, It was another good night at UpBeat. 27 dancers through the door, 3 squares most of the night. Good to have Sheryl Townson visiting. Really good to have Denice back after her long holiday to South America. Apologies from Margaret, Jan & Malcolm. We learned "Spin Chain the Gears", I thought they did really well. Still working on "Load the Boat", other movements are going fine. Desiree won the members draw, it's back to $5 next week.
Had another badge request tonight, welcome Lyndel as a club member.
2nd April 2019
Arrived really early last night, had to meet a representative from the community centre - they wanted a catch up on paperwork and emergency procedures for the local Council. It was a good night with 26 dancers through the door. Consolidation for the learners - "Load the Boat" is still a work in progress for some. Gonna teach "Spin Chain the gears " next week, fingers crossed. At least the weather was kind, starting to feel like Autumn. The member draw did not go off, the jackpot is $15 next week.
25th March 2019
Another good night at Upbeat. 26 dancers through the door. We did dance 3 squares for a while.
I admit that I wasn't 100% on my game last night - for some reason. All 6 of our newer/refresher dancers are still with us. We worked with "Explode And" & "Explode the Wave" as well as revision.
I'm gonna have a consolidation week next week, no new stuff. It's still hot as, and I'm sure that is having an effect.
Laurie would have won the members draw, had he been there.
Malcolm and Mayet now have their new club badges.
18th March 2019
Another good night. The afternoon storm cooled things down a bit, so it was better dancing weather. 28 dancers through the door, danced 3 squares a lot of the night. More than a square of our regulars away for various reasons. All of our newer dancers except 1, were there. Margie from Caboolture was along to brush up her PLUS skills. Great to have Glenys with us and for the first time this year, Barry Brown. Taught, Fan the Top, Load the Boat and Ping Pong Circulate. I think Fan the Top gave us the most trouble. Sharyn won the members draw and I also had 2 requests for badges - more members Yay!!
11th March 2019
Well, was it hot, hot, hot last night? Still it was an awesome night. 34 dancers through the door. We started with 4 squares and then danced 3 for most of the night. All of our newer/refresher dancers were back for more learning, we even had 1 extra. Taught Acey Deucey, Teacup Chain and Linear Cycle, they are all going well. Sue Ettles would have won the members draw. Thanks to all the Angels for helping get the newer dancers through.
4th March 2019
First night of Plus learners last night. 31 dancers through the door. We danced 3 squares most of the night.
It meant we could spread the 6 newer dancers amongst the regular dancers and get a better success rate.
The new dancers are Mary, Gloria, Lyndel, Mayet, Greg & Anne
We only did 3 movements, Chase Right/Left, Grand Swing Thru and Peel Off.
Great to see everybody coming along and supporting the class.
I tried to keep the night moving, so everyone got a fair shake.
Darren was back for the first time this year and he won the members draw.
25th February 2019
Well, it was a lot more pleasant weather for dancing. 27 dancers in the hall, we danced 3 squares for the early part of the evening. Good to have Barry, Carol, Bill, Joan and Linda back on the dance floor. Denice is away to South America for 6 weeks. Bruce & Gail are now away for a few months on their caravan trip to Tassy for the National. I wonder how many we'll get for the start of classes next week? The members draw did not go off, it jackpots for next week.
17th February 2019
Great night at Upbeat. At least 5 dancers got there before me. 24 dancers through the door, we did dance 3 squares for a few brackets. Played with some left handed Spin Chain & Exchange the Gears. Also some assymetrical Relay the Deucey & Dixie Grand. Great to see Jan, Rod & Margaret back on the dance floor. We should have Barry & Carol back with us next week, they've been overseas. Glenys won the members draw. Finally the heat has backed off just a little, a bit more comfortable to dance.
11th February 2019
Another hot night, it's great that people are still coming out to dance. 18 dancers in the hall. Started with 1 square, then 2 for most of the night and 1 at the end. Joan would have won the members draw, had she been there, she does have a good excuse though. Looking forward to the change of season.
4th February 2019 - First dance of the year
19 dancers in the hall for what was quite a hot night - and humid due to the rain. Quite a few aplogies for various reasons. Started the night with a 6 couple dance and then danced 2 squares for most of the night and then only 1 for the last few brackets. There were a couple of "what the hell did he call" moments, but dancers weren't as rusty as they might have been. Gail won the members draw. Our learner/refresher course starts on the 4th of March.

Another good night at UpBeat. 25 dancers through the door, we did dance 3 squares about 1/2 of the night. We got ourselves into some interesting arrangements. Had fun with a new Zoom routine. Our recent graduates are doing well. Our banner carriers for the State Convention are arranged. Karen Gray would have won the members draw but she wasn't there, jackpots to $10 next week. Remember, we are dancing next week.
19th August 2019
A great time was had by all at UpBeat last night. 33 dancers in the hall, we did dance 4 squares regularly throughout the night.
